NHS 111
NHS 111 is the non-emergency service to call when you need medical help or advice fast but it’s not a 999 emergency. We're available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.
Call 111 if:
- You need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
- You need advice about whether or not you need to go to A&E
- You don't have a GP and don't know who to call or where to go
- It's the weekend and GP surgeries are closed
- You need health information or reassurance about what to do next
What we'll do:
Our specially trained staff will assess your symptoms then give you the appropriate healthcare advice or direct you straightaway to the local service that can help you best, such as:
- A&E, urgent care centre or walk-in centre
- Out-of-hours doctor or community nurse
- Emergency dentist or a late-opening chemist
If necessary, we will book you an appointment or arrange for an ambulance to be sent to you.
Service as usual
- If a health professional has given you a specific telephone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, please continue to use that number
- For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999
Please note: All calls to 111 are recorded but the information will only be shared with health professionals directly involved with your care.
