The Almshouse Association

The Almshouse Association works to safeguard the welfare of residents and the interests of almhouse charities and their buildings. The majority of almhouse residents are retired, have limited financial means and live in the vicinity of an almshouse charity or trust.

Almshouse trusts generally cater for a particular category of persons such as retired fishermen, miners or retail workers. Some were founded by the City Livery Companies, many of which still remain almshouses. There are also almshouses for families, the disabled and key workers.
